I grew up in Middlesbrough, on the edge of the North Yorkshire moors. I now live in London with my partner Chris and our cat Sulu. I studied for a BA in Japanese & Chinese at the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London, where I am currently also studying for an MA in Linguistics. I briefly spent a year living and studying in Hakodate, Japan. I’ve tried learning many languages over the years, to varying degrees of success. Despite being a linguist, I’m a ridiculously nervous speaker but I’m slowly getting over that!
I’m a geek at heart. Besides languages, I’m interested in science, history, other cultures, music, and cooking. I try to learn as much as possible whenever possible. I’m constantly reading books on rather peculiar subjects. I started to pick up an interest in international politics, particularly European and Asia-Pacific politics, through reading foreign newspapers. I’m interested in politics, particularly LGBT and Secular issues. I’m a Liberal Democrat and fiercely pro-EU. I’m a Humanist and an active member of the British Humanist Association, where I’m Finance Officer of the LGBT Humanists and Secretary of the Young Humanists.
